Well, I suppose since I’m not interested in marrying a man, I’ll let this one pass for arguments sake to get onto the juicer bits below...

  1. Marriage shall not impede a man’s right to take concubines, in addition to his wife or wives. (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21)

Wooohooo! But then, this isn’t any different from a standard politician’s template - they just don’t want you to do the same as them.

  1. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If she is not a virgin, she shall be executed. (Deut 22:13-21)

Oh dear, now if only they had included that she only needs to be a virgin at the time of the marriage ceremony. If you employ your husbandly rights, you have to kill her (kinda like a teen slasher film: have sex and die).

  1. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden. (Gen 24:3; Num 25:109; Ezra 9:12; Neh 10:30

I knew there was a catch.

  1. Since marriage is for life, neither this constitution nor the constitution of any State shall be construed to permit divorce. (Deut 22:19; Mark 10:9)
  2. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother’s widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall either be slain or pay a fine of one shoe. (Gen 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)

My life or a Nike, my life or a Nike....hold on, I’m deciding....

Despite being a big fan of Simon Hoggart’s parliamentary sketches, I am not so keen on his weekend column. However, I did enjoy this: (URL) Holy matrimony: the authorised version> As George Bush tries to make gay marriage a key election issue, a (...)
