Hey, that's a cool name that might work.

Are these analysis/theory threads becoming too much to follow in a
primiarly-non-discussion group?  Are these discussions noise here?

If so, then yes, there should be a separate group for this sort of thing.
Here is the charter for the current auction group, BTW:

   lugnet.market.auction (group):
Auction announcements, updates, listings, and analysis.

   lugnet.market.* (hierarchy):
Virtual marketplace where people can buy/sell/trade/auction LEGO®
      items.

At one point long ago, there was possibly going to be a group named
lugnet.market.auction.theory, but these discussion aren't necessarily always
completely about auctions.

I would be in favor of

   lugnet.market.tech
or
   lugnet.market.technology
or
   lugnet.market.technologies

and labeling it

   Technologies
or
   Technologies/Techniques

on the web page.

It would certainly sort nicely among the other .market.* groups:

   lugnet.market.auction           Auctions
   lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade    Buy/Sell/Trade
   lugnet.market.shipping          Shipping
   lugnet.market.shopping          Shopping
   lugnet.market.technology        Technology

On the other hand, anything named .market.techxxx almost sounds like the
group is for buying & selling hi-tech components (computers, stereos, games,
etc.)

Perhaps "theory" makes sense outside of the realm of purely auctions.

   lugnet.market.auction           Auctions
   lugnet.market.buy-sell-trade    Buy/Sell/Trade
   lugnet.market.shipping          Shipping
   lugnet.market.shopping          Shopping
   lugnet.market.theory            Theory

There is a fair bit of precedent in Usenet for the .theory prefix, for
example...

   alt.culture.theory
   alt.info-theory
   comp.databases.theory
   comp.theory
   net.games.roleplaying.theory
   rec.music.theory
   sci.psychology.theory
   talk.politics.theory

...just to name a few.  [Not that it's necessarily the best thing to blindly
follow Usenet conventions, but they're an indication of what sorts of things
are intuitive/common by their relative frequencies.]

There are also many Usenet groups ending in .tech, for example...

   alt.disney.tech
   alt.sci.tech
   comp.security.pgp.tech
   comp.sys.powerpc.tech
   fj.soc.tech
   rec.aquaria.tech
   rec.arts.movies.tech
   rec.arts.startrek.tech
   rec.audio.tech
   rec.bicycles.tech
   sci.philosophy.tech
   sci.space.tech

...and a few ending in .technolog*, for example...

   alt.agriculture.technology
   alt.bio.technology
   alt.printing.technologies
   de.rec.sf.startrek.technologie
   sci.bio.technology

What differences do "market theory" and "market tech/technology/
technologies" suggest?  They're similar, but different.  Both do encompass
algorithms, analysis, but I think only "theory" encompasses psychology,
sociology, and economics.
