I think a problem we AFOLs have is that our judgements of "classic" and
"legendary" are often confused with nostalgia. "Heritage buildings" have the
same problem.
I think to be truly classic or legendary a set would have to appeal to kids
today as much as it did to us.
Now I personally voted for the Yellow Castle but after I had done it, I
regretted it, because I realised I had been driven more by nostalgia for the
Lego of my childhood (1960s) than the belief that this was a set that would
stand the test of time. I then decided I should have voted for the
Barracuda, despite it being full of specialised parts (hulls, masts, etc).

| (...) I think it should be 'because it's full of specialised parts' rather than 'despite it being full of specialised parts'. Consider that a reasonable facsimile of the Yellow Castle could be made from most LEGO collections (possibly from a blue (...) (22 years ago, 11-Jul-02, to lugnet.general)

| (...) Not to disagree, but rather to offer an alternative position, I have to say I wish they'd look to some of the _smaller_ sets as possible reissues. Back when the Legends series was first announced, I posted a suggestion stating this. For some (...) (22 years ago, 10-Jul-02, to lugnet.general)
