Jacob's edits still leave some ambiguity - is that what we want? If in
the future there is a candidate who's eligibility is questioned, who
makes the final decision for eligibility?

Jacob said:

Is the ambiguity in the word "professional"?  Ok, so if we say "No
employee of TLC..." does that correct the problem?

part-time, student, non-career, professional, careerist ,steering committee,
fellow member, active member ... there is a german saying: den wald vor lauter
bäumen nicht sehen (not spotting the forest because of too many trees ;-)

I remember the eurobricks meeting at zwolle, where the european clubs met for
the first time. I do not recall who put in the question, but there was a moment
of silence after someone had asked if employees of the company could be a member
and/or having decisional power within the club.
I also remember that there was a negative response to the question (larry;
please correct me if I’m wrong). among the european clubs there were no wish of
a deeper involvement. we seek support, contact, that our word get listen ... but
we have no influence on the company’s politics and the company shouldn’t have in
ours.

itlug.org (italian lego® users group) has solved this problem in a (you might
call it radical) simple way. people who pay their bills with money they got from
the company can’t get a ruling position, ‘cos any kind of employees can’t even
be members: we or them.
