So people have a value... A $$$ value I mean. Depending on their status,
where they live, what they do, how they act...
We are far from the "We are all equal" objective here.
To me, the fact that money gets involved to settle a crime is wrong. Money
brings the worst in human beings. You'll never see someone fight as hard as
they will for a pile of money. Reality shows are all about that. Showing
just how far people can go for a bunch or dollars.
But I'm getting off topic here. I simply don't agree with Larry here.
Although, I admit, I have no argument to back my opinion, just a gut feeling
it's not *that* better from Sharia. You make a mistake, you don't lose your
hand, but you're ruined and your life goes to waste.
I'd rather see some kind of system that doesn't involve money nor physical
punishment without a fair trial.

| (...) In a manner of speaking, yes. You can expect a wrongful death lawsuit from his heirs (and insurance company) unless you settle out of court. But even so you may get some criminal penalty applied too... depending on the nature of the accident (...) (22 years ago, 22-Apr-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
