As I am an assistant Manager at a KB toys I can confirm that this happens alot.
Most (roughly 75%) of the people that come into the store do not realize that
the Mega Blocks sets are not Lego brand. One woman today actually asked me if
the Jack Stone fire engine was a Playmobile set.

The single most requested Lego item (from the people that actually know the
difference) "Do you have any sets with just bricks." (most of whom follow
with a wave and essentially say) "Not this junk. I want stuff like I had as a
kid."
While Lego may be gearing their merchandise to kids they must understand that,
more often than not, the Adult chooses and pays for the stuff.
