From what I see, Bionicle is doing great. Whoever is buying it (kids who
would never have otherwise played with LEGO, or kids already captivated
by LEGO, but looking for something more than building yet another fire
station), it has a positive effect. Kids are buying LEGO and building
and playing. Sure, the play style is different from how most of us
played as kids, but then when I was a kid, mecha weren't really on the
horizon yet (and a mecha built with the pieces I had as a kid would be a
sorry sight).
Another line which seems to be doing just fine is the dinosaurs. In the
past few days, none of the stores I've been to have had very many on the
shelves. The smaller dinosaurs are interesting in my mind. There really
haven't been sets in the past which focused on building creatures mostly
out of bricks. I'd say this is a _good_ thing. Showing kids that wow!
You can build animals from bricks. The Creator line is good here also.
In my opinion, the Creator line is brilliant, if you haven't watched the
video that comes in on of the bigger sets, do so. It tells a story by
building various things from bricks (something we AFOLS have also
recently started to do). The set even has a nice selection of parts, and
you don't seem to be paying for the video (the set is about the same
price per brick as all the other Creator sets). Each Creator set also
comes with a decent "idea book."

I think TLC does realize that older folks want to build towns. There is
stuff to build towns with. We have doors and windows in the bulk packs.
There are several decent "town" sets in the studios line. There are a
few buildings in the train line. While Creator has bigger, blockier
pieces, it is well populated with stuff to build towns (though it is
true the doors will look large for minifigs, but those 2x4x3 windows
will work just fine). Harry Potter is also going to be a boon to town
folks I suspect.
