I actually disagree with that, but the disappointment behind it is much the
same. This change in quality and piece quantity that we see is really a
change in target audience for Lego (and a poor one in my opinion). Where
Lego once held the appeal of so many ages by having sets with enough
complexity so that all could appreciate them but having directions that
younger kids (4 - 6) could figure out, they now really have honed down their
audience to either those small kids, or their parents.

Again, the change in audience really is what makes Lego think that they
"may" be able to survive on this course. The parents of the new generation
who have played with Lego dont' have the experience or knowledge to look at
what is for sale and know that in comparison to a decade ago, they are
tragic at best. The younger kids as well, of course, have no ability to hold
judgement or comparison, they just want the colored pieces. So Lego is
trying to prey off of a bit of naivety therefore cutting loose the true
collectors and builders of Legos.

Same deal... I guess what I don't understand is that when push comes to
shove, it is the true and dedicated Lego collectors that buy the most Legos
each year. Likewise, unfortunately for Lego, these are the same people who
have the ability to notice that Lego is trying to cut people short with
packing the price with pieces that 5 years ago, could be made out of 3, 5,
or even ten pieces. So I must admit to being confused. Lego seems to be
missing something easy and in the end, it could mean their downfall which
looks to have already well begun.

Dont' know if Lego is listening or not, but I'd have to say they're not
acting wisely. However, kutos to the younger collectors who have also noted
the drop in quality and bring it up for discussion.
