I just picked up a series of children books (there are two so far) called Jedi
Apprentice and it details how Obi-Wan Kenobi becomes the Padawan of Qui-Gon
Jinn. Apparently, infants are taken and trained by Yoda at the Jedi Temple
until the age of thirteen. If the trainees are not chosen by then, they must
accept assignments elsewhere as non-Jedi Knights.
The stories are not great, but they are interesting to read after watching The
Phantom Menace four times (I saw it again this morning). Once you get to know
and understand the characters, it brings the characters to life even more when
reading the stories.
