Hmm, I think not. If you were Maul and you were looking down at your
enemy as he is about to die, and then he is suddenly behind you with
a lightsaber in his hand I don't think you would have been exactly
prepared. There is that shock factor.

The shock factor was nice, but DM had a good full 1 to 2 seconds of elapsed
time from the point that QGJ's lightsaber lept from the floor and flew into
OWK's hand and the point that OWK was flipping in the air and landing behind
DM.  It wasn't believable.  DM in real-life would have stepped backwards or
at least raised his lightsaber again to fight by the time OWK was above him
in the air.  Given how fast and perfect and beautiful DM's fighting ability
had been up until that point, in fact, DM should actually have been able to
rip OWK to shreds in mid-leap.

Did OWK have the lightsaber in his hand _before_ his leap?  My take on it:
DM standing there, smug and self-assured of victory against an unarmed
opponent.  Just look at how DM swept his saber back and forth right above OWK's
head.  DM was enjoying tormenting OWK.  OWK, remembering QGJ's lightsaber on
the floor, then leaps up and over, bringing the lightsaber to hand in mid-leap.
DM, perhaps still toying with his "defenseless" opponent, does not attack
immediately, but instead turns to savor the moment of killing another Jedi.
His mistake, leading to his demise.

There were several times that the various parties were doing leaps and spins
that, logically, would have left them vulnerable.  Why didn't any of them take
advantage of those?  Theatrics, perhaps?

(...) When DM attacked QGJ on Tatooine, QCJ exhibited a believable sense of urgency as well as a fear for Anakin's life. And after DM impales QCJ in the final battle, OWK is extremely upset; he bounces in place, extremely agitated, waiting for the (...) (25 years ago, 23-May-99, to lugnet.starwars)
