Oh, it’s a fairly old nickname, dating back to the days when ST:V was still in
original episodes (possibly even to her first year on the show). I mean, think
about it. She’s a Borg. She eschews all of the “silly” trappings of human life
in favor of the cold logic of the Borg. She lives in a cargo hold. She wears a
skin-tight catsuit. And high heels. And she’s at least a D-cup (well, the
costume certainly is, even if she isn’t) with a skinny waist. All of her clunky
Borginess was conveniently stripped off except a cutsey little doodad around one
of her eyes and another one on her hand (and for some reason it was physically
impossible for them to ever do anything else for the rest of the series to
remove those implants). And even in spite of all of that, Rick Berman adamantly
decried the idea that she was planted there as a gratuitous sex object. Please.
The only way that statement could have possibly held less weight is if he’d
sucked down a balloonful of helium right before saying it. If she were a real
Borg, with real Borg logic, she would have been wearing military fatigues and
either combat boots or athletic shoes.
And on that subject, what’s with the whole futuristic fashion sense being chock
full of full-body jumpsuits? They didn’t even appear to have a zipper in the
front. Can you imagine standing at a urinal with your entire outfit around your
ankles? And then having to turn to the next guy and ask him to zip you back up?
Eesh.
