Awww come on, John, the American Press don't hate the prez, they love him!
He gives them so many ideas for newspaper-selling stories! In fact most
recent presidents seem to have the same effect on the press.

Yes, wouldn't it be refreshing if the press cared more about the truth and
less about pushing personal political predilections.

Yes, wouldn't it be refreshing if the President cared more about the truth and
less about pushing personal political predilictions?

If the press cared about the truth, they would have been calling for an
independent prosecutor to look into the secret dealings of the White House with
undisclosed members of the energy industry.  They would have questioned the
reasons for going into Iraq before we went in.  They would be calling for
impeachment of the president for lying to the American People and the world
about the false and cynical motivation for mounting an unprecedented pre-emptive
invasion of a sovereign nation.  They would be questioning where all those
prisoners-of-the-endless-war-on-terror are being held, and exactly when they
might expect to be treated to due process of law.

Forget the fact that he's a military deserter and a crappy businessman.  He's
capped all of that by being hands down the worst president in U.S. history.  He
should thank his lucky stars that the press hasn't been digging for the truth
the past four years.

If the US expects to be the standard bearer for democracy and justice in this
world, we'd better be damn sure that we are beyond reproach in every respect.
Otherwise we simply fan the flames of the very problems we are trying to solve.
This above all is the greatest intelligence failure of the Bush administration.

(...) I thought it was Jackson. Didn't he start the "to the victor go the spoils" politics in the US? Chris (20 years ago, 22-Jul-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
