I'm with you on the "some popular opinion" part, but I don't see the
president as calling for us to go indiscriminately charging off.
The Office of Homeland Defense scares me on general principle, Ashcroft
scares me with his insistence on wider wiretapping power (3/4 of wiretaps
are used to fight the war on drugs and there is already a broader power to
wiretap that exists when the target is foreign agents or terrorists), and
many other losses of civil rights. And the god stuff makes me blanch. For
reference:

(you may need to unwrap that)
But I'm OK with the basic thrust
- We got attacked by evil people with evil ideals
- We're going to go root it out but it won't be easy
- We will no longer tolerate those regimes that are enemies of ours
- We will start with the Taliban, who have been presented an ultimatum
- This is not a war on Islam, and intolerance cannot be tolerated (1)
What part of that isn't correct, isn't justified?

It's difficult to disagree with that, but is that what Eric was saying? I
don't think it was. That despite that i found fault with some of what he said.
1 - Last night's telethon was another crying jag for me, but the part that
made me cry about the hardest was when The Champ called for tolerance.

| Eric, your note suggests that you just generally missed the point. But there are few point in particular that I think are worth making. (...) Your tone suggests not only that you think his safety could be imperiled, but also that you wouldn't be too (...) (23 years ago, 22-Sep-01, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
