Sure. Create more martyrs. Great Idea. This sounds like the Israeli model to
deal with terrorists. Does it work for them?

Just in case you didn't notice "they" (terrorists) just made Martyrs out of
thousands of people on 09/11/2001.  That was as much a mistake for them as it
was for Japan to attack Pearl Harbor 12/07/1941.

We do not share the same understanding of the term "martyr".

Obviously...

We have Martyrs too and we will take appropriate actions.  They will fight
back and we know that, so be it.  We (the free world) will prevail.

Then what? Will the deaths continue in Iraq and Israel? Will globalisation
continue to exploit those in the developing world? Should we nurture
despair? Should we live in fear? Should we prepare our children for future
attacks?

Much of this sounds like jibber jabber.  As for preparing out children for
future attacks I think we need to prepare them for the fact that this is a
reality in the world and we are going to fight it.  That means more people are
going to die.  We should'nt live in fear, thats why we have to fight.  If we
don't fight then they will just continue to step up their attacks on freedom.
Unfortunately when we fight them they will fight back so more innocent citizens
will die, but if we don't fight they will die anyway.

Since when do we "nurture despair".  We need to support the developing world
and help them educate themselves.  But before we do that we have to remove the
threat(s).  I don't condone attacking civilian centers but I agree with Larry's
idea of dumping flyers and giving citizens a choice.  If the choose wrong then
they are the enemy.  That to me might be more that we should do.  As far as I
know no flyers were dumped over New York or Washington to tell all the innocent
Men, Women, and Children to get out of the way.

As for Iraq and Isreal, if they harbor or support terrorists then we should
take action.  If that means bombing the hell out of military targets then so be
it.  If a few civilians die then that is unfortunately a part of war.

On a side note I heard one government offical who put it rather well...

When asked "if the American Public's support would hold when all the military
casualties start comming home?"... The official said "Today (09/11/01) the
American Public became hardened to military casualties.  Any military
casualties will pale in comparision to the number of casualties of September
11th."

I can't imagine anything more true.  Americans will accept casualties to remove
the threat.  Our soil was attacked, our home was attacked, that is much
different then a military ship oversea's being attacked.  All America was
attacked yesterday, that was the terrorists mistake.  The giant is fully awake,
stay out of our way.  We are going to take care of business.  If you get in the
way you may regret it.
