My definition of 'sniper' is someone who places a bid so near to the close
of a fixed-ending auction that other bidders cannot respond to the new bid,
even if they want to.
In live auctions, you always have the choice to rebid. Or not.

Not a big nerve, it's just that you made a reasonable statement that had
been thoroughly thrashed out and demonstrated to be false. Proxy bidding
is extremely useful, but it isn't a cure-all. If it was, all auctions
would feature sealed bids.

There are others who are much more passionate. I just happened to be the
first to respond to you.

Very true. Many people are amazed at the prices on eBay. I'm not one of
them.

Auctions have been run on RTL for much longer than I've known about eBay.

They can stop using the fixed-ending model for running their auctions.
Again, this has been thrashed out here and on RTL (and probably many other
places as well).

It tells me that the auction-hosting site wants to limit the length of
auctions, for whatever reason, and the seller wants to go with the largest
site possible.

That is the truth.

| Last post, I promise..... I guess I cannot see how my theories have been proven false in prior postings. I am not trying to start a war of words. I would just like to understand where the problem is. Are you opposed to how e-bay fixed-end auctions (...) (26 years ago, 27-Apr-99, to lugnet.market.auction)
