Let's remember why we are all here at LUGNET. It's a great forum for people
to discuss and further their passion (replace with "toys" or "hobbies" as it
fits your situation) for Lego.

Right.  But let's not forget that many of us are FAR more enamored
of Lego the PRODUCT than Lego the company.  Aside from some recent
slips in quality control (colors, mostly) Lego the PRODUCT has never
let us down.  Lego the COMPANY, though, has done very little _but_
let us down.

Lego the company has, for the most part, ignored what could be its
most vocal and one of its most useful FREE marketing tools/groups
for years.  Through silence, denials, and in the case of some,
downright rudeness and arrogance, it has done nothing but blow us
off.  Don't believe me?  Call up S@H sometime and try this little
experiment:

You: Hey, I'd like to order 50 copies of this service pack - think
you can cut me some slack on the built-in shipping on that?  After
all, you're only having to send them in one box and pay one postage
rate, whereas if 50 people call and order them you have to use 50
boxes and pay postage 50 times.

Them: No.

Or go find the arrogant man from Billund who scoffed at Larry (who
probably spends more in a year on Lego products than any 10-100 of
us combined).

Am I glad Lego has decloaked?  Sure I am.  Will I do my best to be
personally polite to the PERSON Lego has (maybe) sent to discuss
things with us?  Sure I will.

Do I suddenly believe that because of a few mostly vague promises of
"things to come" that Lego has FINALLY wised up and decided to start
doing something to meet the needs of our community (and thus make
themselves a LOT more money - which is fine by me) - maybe.  Call me
cynical, but I'm still waiting for features in software products
that were promised by companies years ago - I'm not about to believe
100% that Lego is making an about-face and will suddenly become the
great AFOL-friendly company we'd all like it to be.

But keep the crow in the freezer just in case - I'll be happy to eat
some, especially if I'm doing it while ordering bulk parts from a
convenient web interface.
