Hi Esger. I am sure some folks would recommend DCC for a newly laid out complex network but as far as I can see this is almost impossible with the 12v system due to the problem of opening the motors and fitting the decoder inside. I have played (...) (23 years ago, 7-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Short reasoning behind my vote: 1. Steam engine wheels. I posted about this before. The 'My Train' and the HP train look ridiculous: top half steam train, bottom half diesel. Does anyone know (or bothered to measure) the distance between the rails of the Legoland California trains? My train collection consists of a number of 4.5, 12 and 9 volt sets. The 9 volt ones are converted to DCC, the 12 volt trains I run as is but running the 4.5 trains soon gets boring with their very limited capability for remote control and of course (...) I've started working on a new train layout. I couldn't make up my mind whether to make the cars 6 wide or 8 wide, so instead I plan to make them 384 studs wide. This is my second LEGO train model, a modern light rail vehicle (LRV). It is inspired loosely by the new vehicles that have recently entered service for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) in Santa Clara County, CA. Like the VTA (...) Thanks Sonnich, I am not sure I will even try, my alternative plan is to somehow make current pick-ups that will work on the 9V track and feed the 12V motors through their external connector. My DCC track voltage is about 11 volts which with the (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Once I dropped one one the floor - that did it :-) Aother way is to open it from teh bottom side. It is glued nearby the wheels. When that is opened you can quite easy open it. I haven't done it for some time, there are 2 holes but AFAIR they ae not (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)

Hi guys, I have a number of 9V motors that I have converted to use DCC and also some 12V motors I would like to convert. Does anyone know how to open the 12V motors in such a way that then can be closed again without TOO much mutilation? Thanks (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.trains)
