If you are trying to decide what to choose, I would advise contest for the
first 2 or so GATS shows till you have a track record with them. At that
point you can start asking for guarantee.

This is good advice, Lar.  Thanks.  I would have thought it best to ask for a
guarantee, but I understand the reasonings perfectly now.
How national is GATS?  I mean:  if we offer reference to the other clubs here
who have done successful GATS shows will they know what we are talking
about in
regards to Lego train layouts?

GATS is very national. Except for the NE, where they don't have as much
presence, they do a lot of shows all over the US. At the national level they
are aware of the power of LEGO(r) and what clubs are consistently able to
achieve once they get some seasoning and organization. So you have one tick
in favor there. But you're a new club to them... they haven't seen what YOU
can do.

Some clubs do better shows than others (better from the perspective of
GATS), and that's only natural. It's a matter of interest, experience, and
resources (people, tables, built up things, etc. etc. etc.)

And if you start actively participating in more train shows, nominate two
ILTCO reps and get on the ILTCO email list.

I am all signed up with ILTCO and the ILTCO message board.  Working my way
through the messages will take a bit of time (100 down; 750 or so to go).
Ed McGlynn has also offered to serve as an ILTCO rep for our group and I
provided him with relavent sign-up info.
What is the ILTCO email list??  Do you mean the Yahoo message board
or something else?

The message board.

Ed McGlynn is working on a LUCNY handout for the upcoming show.  It will be
based upon handouts produced by other LTC's.  Thanks, Lar, for providing >those.

Glad to help. if other clubs want copies just contact me, I have a pretty
good set. I also appreciate GETTING copies of handouts done by other clubs.

I put in a request last week to LEGO via Jake McKee for a supply of Lego Train
Catalogs.  Have not received a reply as of yet.  Hope we can get some in time
for the show.

Nate Jacobs has offered to handle the production of LUCNY cargo container
stickers and I provided him contact info to get them to KK Quah as
soon as they
are done.  Who do we ask about getting a full set of all club's containers for
this GATS show?

Um, that was a one off. The clubs all sent in containers based on how many
clubs existed at the time, KK doesn't have a stock of extra containers to
send out. Perhaps at some future time another exchange round can be done...
but it's not a "contact KK and get a set of containers" sort of thing.

Once I know we will be getting a set of them I will whip up a few double-stack
rail cars to haul them around on and probably some semi-trucks, too.  Enough
advanced notice might entice me to build a modest container transfer station
for the layout (I should build one anyway).

A worthy goal in and of itself.
