As a heavy equipment technician here in the US, I can tell you that all of the really oversize (way over 80,000 pounds and more than 5 axles or 12,000-20,000 pounds per tire or pair of tires) vehicles here in the US use some type of remotely (...) What you can also do is use a 10U to make a 7U and also a 2U (or use a 12U to make a 7U and 4U), discarding ~ 1U. Once again, it is best to just use what you have most of, especially since 2's and 4's are rather plentiful. "Thomas Avery" (...) (23 years ago, 10-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)

Well, I'm finally going to bite the bullet and [dons flame proof suit] *cut* some of my axles to make 7u lengths. Has anybody who's actually done this before got any tips? What kind of cutting tool? Well, I found out how the motor works which is the main reason I bought the set. As Huw Millington rightly pointed out, it relies on the integrated battery and motor "lump" with the reversing switch on the top. The forward/reverse action is (...) (23 years ago, 9-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)

I completed 8461 today, and can now summarise the differences between it and 8458. The obvious difference is of course the use of a new style of panel. Umm? There are actually only 2 specialised parts - the CV joint and the 3 pin hub with steering arms - (of which you need 4 of each) in the mechanism that arn't "commonly" available in other sets. The rest of the mechanism is universal joints, new (...) (23 years ago, 8-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)

The 8466 also does this. Actually, the 8466 does pretty much everything the 8880 does except four wheel steering, and that's easily solved. It's a pity there isn't a remote-control pneumatic switch you could connect up to Mindstorms or a similar system. I would *love* to be able to remotely control switches, this would solve your problem somewhat by drastically cutting (figuratively (...) (23 years ago, 7-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)

Hey, you should feel lucky. At least they acknowledged it will exist. I placed an order with SAH on Friday and asked about the 8461, that rep told me there is no such set. :) It does seems kind of strange that they are not taking any pre-orders for (...) Lewa is my favorite and I don't much care for red, so I switched the colors on the Exo Suit to better suit Lewa. (URL) ¡Buns of ProtoDermis! I got this great idea, of how you could go with the fully posible legs, and have the sculptured lock as well!!! all you would need to do is to put some sort (...) My best creation, so far, is based on a lot of other stuff i have seen around. the ankles a ball joints and the feet are Armored Core meets Robotech kind of a thing, the legs are roughly copied (when i say roughly, i mean look nothing alike) from (...) The coolest thing I did was pick up a Technic Fig and pass it from one hand to the other and place it down again. I picked up battery boxes and other (...) They are geared but to a higher final speed of 1200 rpm at (...) Does anyone know how much touque these motors have (from the drive hole thingy) in n/m.
