Personally, I don't really care if the "TECHNIC" LEGO theme disappears.  As
long as technic elements such as beams, liftarms, gears, transmission bits,
motors, etc. keep showing up in decent quantities in LEGO sets, I, for one,
will be happy.  No matter if it says Star Wars, Bionicle, Racers, or TECHNIC on
the box.  And I believe one of the LEGO reps at Brickfest 2002 DID say that
TECHNIC is not dead.... probably referring to technic LEGO in general.

I couldn't agree more. It's the parts I want!

Also discovered a new Racers (technic) set on Shop@Home:
8472 Street 'n' Mud Racer
http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?id=%7B9F9A18AB%2D82C6%2D11D6%2D8047%2D00C04F5ED856%7D

It has a motor, and appears to use bumpers to toggle the motor from forward to
backward.  The switch appears to resemble a polarity switch.  Unfortunately the
motor is likely inside a single module with the batteries, similar to the
Manas.  Not sure if the set has steering or not.  Anyone have this set?  Anyone
know anything more about the 8472???  Cool use of Bionicle parts as fenders on
the off-road version...

I have this set on order, but it didn't show up yet .. grrrrr!

My primary interest is in finding out how that bumper system works. Checking
out if it is adaptable to other uses where retaining 100% Lego purity is an
issue. After all, an extra channel of motor control which is mechanically
activated could be very useful ....

I'll be sure and post the how's and why's when I find out unless someone can
fill us in in the meantime.

(...) My guess would be that since this is a re-issue of a TECHNIC set as a legend, it has TECHNIC written on the box. I mean, in the original release, it was part of TECHNIC, not Star Wars, Racers, Bionicle, etc. Personally, I don't really care if (...) (22 years ago, 5-Sep-02, to lugnet.technic)
