I'm not stating that anything that happens today that we don't understand
scietifically won't, at some future time, be understood by science.  I'm stating
that there are things that science will never be able to explain, that the whole
is more than the sum of the scientificly explained parts.

My response to that has been(1), and continues to be, "so what?". If I can't
taste it, and it can't taste me, what does it matter? I'm happy without. If you
want to believe in pink elephants that's fine with me.

Further, if the  Elephantians wanted to go around praising pink elephants on
Tuesdays(2) and (perhaps as a result of divine elephant delivered writings)
deciding that they need to be rubbing blue mud in their belly buttons, that's
fine with me too. Rub away.

Where I draw the line (3) is when they start insisting that everyone else start
saying "gays are bad and can't marry or be suffered to exist", er I mean,
insisting that everyone else start rubbing blue mud in their belly buttons,
because the elephant boys claim to be divinely inspired, and insist that we
organise society along anti gay, er I mean pro blue mud lines.

That I can't stand for.

1 - as discussed at great length in o-t.d before, as long time readers know,
maybe we need to assign code numbers to all the arguments, then we can just say
"argument 45" and save time (4)...

2 - Note that use of Elephants and Tuesdays in this example is pure coincidence,
it has nothing to do with the GOP or any Tuesday, especially not November 2nd
2004.

3 - and this ain't you Dave Koudys, mind you, I think everyone here knows that
even though you're an elephant worshiper, you draw the line there too, I'm
talking about Mr. Meyer and Mr. Neal and their ilk

4 - but of course some wag will inevitably pop up and say "but you just don't
tell it the way he did", or something...

(...) ***snip*** (...) Nice! I haven't heard that joke in quite a while, and it always gives me a giggle. Dave! (20 years ago, 19-Oct-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) Evidence is scientific. This is much like talking about colours to a person who has been blind their entire lives--you can get across the 'concept' of colours by talking about blue is running water, and red is heat or flame ('cause a blind (...)
