You don’t really believe that it was pointless. Do you? Bush had reasons for doing what he did. You (and I!) just disagree with the felicity of his reasons. You have, in the past, given room for either evil or incompetence as the explanation of his motives. But I really don’t think there’s any evidence for the incompetence hypothesis. His team knows exactly what’s going on.
