The main difference is that soldiers are asking for it. They are paying for
bad US foreign politics.

Well, that’s the point, isn’t it? Bush deliberately initiated an unjustified
war, and now 1,000+ US soldiers are dead, along with ~12,000 innocent Iraqis. I
agree that soldiers put themselves in harm’s way, but one would hope that they
wouldn’t be pointlessly put at risk as they have been in this case.
