You dont really believe that it was pointless. Do you? Bush had reasons
for doing what he did. You (and I!) just disagree with the felicity of his
reasons. You have, in the past, given room for either evil or incompetence
as the explanation of his motives. But I really dont think theres any
evidence for the incompetence hypothesis. His team knows exactly whats
going on.

I think you have to be pretty machavellian to see how that would actually be
of any benefit to anyone, enough that you would deliberately plot for that
outcome. Also why were they saying this would be a walk?
