If nothing changes, sure. Generations of Palestinians have grown up and have been taught to hate and murder innocent Israelis. Slightly different angle of hatred, but it shows in living color how it can occur.

Are you referring to this op-ed piece cited in :

MSNBC (also cited in about a bazillion other places)

Actually, I hadn’t seen that piece, but I cited a few yesterday with the same sentiments HERE

So you are saying that the Middle East doesn’t want us to buy their oil?

Don’t confuse selling us something with not wanting our input into their internal processes. Our “friends” the Saudis are HAPPY to sell us oil, as long as it is on their terms, at the price, in the quantity and in the manner of their choosing.

Is not the market a two-way street? They should need us as much as we them.

Including not selling it to us to make a point. Which, is the right of the owners of the resources, after all. Whether that particular gang of princes are the rightful owners would be a different question.

And therein lies the rub. Sure, what’s the difference to an already billionaire Sheik? The “royal families” better start pulling their heads out of their kaffiyehs or the murmurs of revolution might begin...

Bush would never upset his friends.

That does not translate into welcoming our views on whether it is appropriate for their women to be able to drive or vote or hold meaningful jobs.

In the end, Freedom must ring. We must allow cultures that are temporally behind in development time to adjust their thinking, but it should be an inevitability. It is up to modern cultures to assist in this process and provide advanced technology to speed up the industrialization process.

Well a certain “mordern country” is assiting human rights abuses in countries like Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Yemen & Pakistan whilst breaking internatioanl law itself. What does that have to do with freedom?

I don’t care if a society is communist, socialist, theocratic, or secular-- their citizens must be free to choose and their rights upheld.

Did Iraqis choose the invasion? Did they choose to have their countrymen tortured in Bush’s gulag? Do they choose to have their kids killed by Bush’s bombs?

(...) Sure. They chose not to overthrow Hussein and install a proper rule-of-law system. Isn't that the same thing? Chris (20 years ago, 14-Sep-04, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
