I'll try to make this as simple as possible, without getting into a totally
complex discussion--
If people don't have guns, people can't get shot by guns.
That's as simple as it gets.
Knives, hatchets, pipes, hands, and the rest all have intended purposes
which are not killing. Guns have 1 purpose--they are made...their
*intended* function is to shoot. Bringing up the 'straw man' arguement that
people conduct violence with these other tools is, as shown above,
ludicrous. My litchen knife is intended to cut my steak, it's not intended
to stab somebody--what can a gun do besides shoot?
If your gun's 'intended' function is to go to the range and shoot at
targets, well, I think the safety of society far outweighs the little thrill
you get when you shoot a target.
If you put a gun in someone's hands, or you put a knife in someone's
hands--it is easier to shoot someone than it is to stab someone--there will
be less death if there are no guns. In the last week alone in the news
there was a few instances of gun violence that I didn't mention for
'dwelling' on my pet topic--a guy drove by and shot a little girl because of
a snowball fight.
Here's an example, completely arbitrary mumbers...
Hypothetically, all violent deaths totalled, 60 deaths out of a hundered are
due to gun-related deaths...
I wouldn't say that those 60 people would live if there were no guns on the
street, for some of them would be killed in another way.
But there's the rub--*some* of those people would be killed in another way,
but not all 60--so we'd actually be saving people by not having any guns on
the street--not everyone to be sure, and we'll work on that as well, but
some would be saved.
I always heard, "If we save one person, it'd be worth it..." and I
wholeheartedly believe that.
You don't need the gun, you shouldn't want the gun, and if your only reason
to have the gun is to "protect society", you're not--you're actually,
statistically, hindering society.
I'm just saying...
