Thanks for the note, I have found other rather strange things in the early 80
sets. There is a round brick 1x1 open stud transgreen, that had a white coating
on the inside. I have seen this in three sets. Also the minifig airtanks in
red and yellow are a different shade and maybe a different plastic. I have also
found this in the 1x1 plates with vertical clip.
As for the trains, I have come accross a noise surpressor center rail. It has a
little box on it and only marked with a little star on the back.
I think that much of the problems with inventories is Lego using whatever parts
were available at the time. And it appears that they kept no records. I found
a very strange thing in one set. Someone at Lego had a sense of humor. Inside
the sealed box and sealed bag was a Mega Block. Unhappy employee?
