This is a pretty strong statement.  Being someone who has submitted an inventory
in the past, I'm curious to know exactly what is wrong with them.

Agreed, Orion. I've never submitted an inventory, but I've had occasion to
double-check sets against what's listed on Peeron, and haven't had anywhere near
the results stated above. The only inconsistency I've found have been in the
"extra parts" section and with a couple of different versions of pieces, but
certainly nothing of note that I'd consider incorrect.

I think some specific examples would be in order to verify or contradict the 95%
number.

I did not think that there was a problem because I would go with the inventory
on Peeron, not building all the sets.  But once I started building them and
checking the problem appeared.  I was doing this because I wanted to make sure
that my sets had the proper pieces in them (OCD again.)  Then I started finding
mistake after mistake in the inventories so that is when I started to submit to
Peeron.  Here is an email I sent to Dan that is an example of what I have been
finding.  Of course there was no reply.
Dan:

I really think that you should change a lot of
your inventories.  I am providing  correct
information and some that I sent in Oct are still
not correct.  It is somewhat of a disservice to
list the inventorys that are so incorrect.  You
really do need a fact checker.  Below is an
example of a set I just sent the inventory to
Clark.  The surprising fact is this is listed as
verified.  I really do not see how two people can
get the facts wrong if they really do the work.
I can send you the page numbers of the
instuctions if you are interested in at least
verifiying the missing parts.  While your
inventory for 6383 is on the high end of what is
wrong, I found one set that had all the parts
doubled.  Check out OO1 gears, that is way wrong
and I have sent in corrections two times and it
is still wrong and the inventory is on the box.
I have reached 1000 emails that I have sent
changing inventories and adding pictures.  I hope
that it is not the case that you have the
sponsers that you have and are no longer
concerned with quality.
Here is the sample that I have refered to.  I
built the set and checked the inventory against
what I have in my set which I bought myself.
should bes:
3005 y/15
3004 y/29
3622 y/0 none
3010 y/13
3009 bu/6
3008 r/3
3008px6 is a sticker brick, not a pattern brick
so r/0
add: 3003 bu/1
4079 y/1

3040 blue and red are without center studs

Please let me know your thoughts on what I am
offering.
John Patterson

Check this out with the directions and you will find these yourself to verify
what I am saying.

The following is from 6394:
Should bes:
add 3010 y/1
3742 r/8, y/8
3024 y/4
3710 y/6
3040b w/4
4624 oldgy/6

Here is from 6372:
3742 should be r/8, w/8,y/8
3068bp65 should be one more 3068b as this is a
sticker.

And the actual number of emails is 1015 as of today.  This is the total starting
in October so they were not all at once.  The seem to have the time to add Duplo
parts pictures in great numbers.

and here is one email I posted on Lugnet to Dan:

OK Dan, I have sent picture of 10144 box picture and correction to
inv@peeron.com.  Now here is what I am talking about: There are two tan bricks
1x6 on page 7 of the instructions.  These are not listed in the Peeron
inventory.  This inventory was done by 2 people one was a verification.  Now
this is a small mistake, but it is an example of what happens in 90% of your
inventories.  I do not see how it can be verified unless these people just want
to have their names on Peeron.  I can give hundreds of examples of this. One set
had all the parts doubled.  One had half the parts.  001 Gears - I have sent the
corrections in 3 times, the first over 6 months ago, it is still uncorrected, I
guess I just need to add the comment to Lugnet that the Peeron inventory is
incorrect on the sets that have not been updated.  It seems that xxx is the
only one that really cares about the completeness and correctness of Peeron.
John Patterson

So believe me I have done my homework on this subject.  I am also finding that
Brick Link has inventories that seem to be better prepared and more work has
gone into them.
And yes I am a little fustrated at the lack of follow up.  They will probably
never get the chance to have around 6000 of their inventories checked with
actual sets.  Not only that I am sending info on sets they do not have listed
along with inventories and pictures.
