I have inventoried about 900 sets so far. What I do is to print the inventory
on Peeron. Check it against what is in my set (most of which I bought and kept
myself since 1974), compare the pieces against peeron and then built the item.
I think that 900 is a fairly good size sample and because I am OCD I have been
keeping the stats on what I find. A very good example is the Gear Set 001. I
have sent in corrections 3 times and they still are not posted and I have been
doing this since October, one person with access to changing things has helped
but he seems to be out of the loop right now and it basically added the pictures
of the sets I sent in. I have about 6500 sets to go and will update this forum.
As for sets having different parts, that is rather rare and if you look at the
directions bricks have been overlooked and totally misidentified. So far the
sets are from Samsonite and a bit of everything that is a larger set at this
point, Classic Space, Castle, newer space sets, Star Wars. The smaller sets I
have in boxes because of the room and they go back to the early 60s, I figure
that I will get at them in another 2 or three months. I am close to starting on
the train sets. Before I say that they is an error I make sure from building
the sets and the directions. My guess is there was hastle in starting up the
site and inventories from directions are very hard to do. Very few of the
emails required answers, just fix the problems. So many people on ebay use
peeron to check the sets out and when you get them, they are incomplete.
Luckily I have over 500,000 spare parts and I have sorted them by age. So I can
usually replace anything that is missing with a brick from the era. A lot of
people can't do this. So I am making an effort to correct Peeron and they do
not appear to want to spend the time to truely produce a quality product.
Hope that this answers your questions.
