The point is, today's parents are those that spend the money.  If they turn
to LEGO based on their memory of something special, but then can't find it.
They could easily look elsewhere.  The above story is not likely an isolated
case, and thus it is clear that the concerns being voiced here are not only
the rants of the AFOLs online, but also of countless parents everywhere...

Ding-Ding! We have a winner.  As an Assistant Manager at EB Kids, (some may
recall, formerly at KB toys)  at least one parent per day (usually two or
three) has asked me: "Do have any Basic Lego sets? You know the kind with
mostly bricks that kids can build whatever they want?"
I reply:  "Well we have these."  [point to creator line]
Roughly half the people reply: "Do you have any with normal mini-figs?"
I reply:  "No sorry, the company doesn't make those anymore."
The customer then moves on to something else.

To reiterate, this plays out at almost verbatim at least once a day now that we
are in the holiday season and the average "Joe/Jane" is shopping for toys.

Today one woman followed up with:  "Well do you have any of the Town sets?"
I showed her the Jack Stone sets and she asked quite irately:  "Does the
company WANT to stay in buisness?"

Well the moral of the story is while half the people settle for the Creator
sets, TLC is blatantly ignoring the "future AFOL" half.

(well I am glad TLC has a hit fad (bionicle) but what happens when the fad
dies?)

(...) Exactly! And that reminds me of another anecdote I forgot to mention in my earlier post: With pics of my Town and a few small models around my cubicle, people throught the company I work for have learned of my hobby. During the past few weeks, (...) (23 years ago, 29-Nov-01, to lugnet.general)
