Dear LEGO fans,

The LEGO Company IS listening.  I have spent some time reading the posts
here tonight and you can rest assured that the company is well aware of
LUGNET and your concerns, desires and feedback.

I hope you read all the ideas as well ;-)

As some of you have acknowledged, there is quite a bit of discussion going
on here that can prove difficult for the Company to respond to. We may
indeed have the answers but two issues come to mind: time and "appropriateness."

Not to mention the age old issue of 'comerical' confidentiality.

As you might imagine, the lack of time is one of the significant factors
that hinders our responses.  To write a detailed response that caters to
your needs is quite a complex task.
Some of your questions would require
volumes to answer rather than a short, quick message.  Case in point:
"Juniorization."

Commerical Fanzine? Might need some new staff and an editor but I feel this
might be a way of explaning things. It worked for Meccano in the 1950's.
(Unfortunatly the current 2000 Meccano looks even more Jr than your
companies range!!)

I can tell you right now that kids have told the Company
that they have less time to build and want things that are faster to build,
therefore the Company has created what you call "Juniorized" sets.

Is the reaserch public? I can apreciate that your company has to keep
secrets but if this reasearch were released in an 'offical' way then maybe
we could make a sensible decsion. Rational choices need evidence!.( The
'evidence' I get here on Lugnet is usally to the contray.)

[The
very fact that I mentioned this is likely to solicit a mile long response
which we will not likely be able to respond to(which brings me to the next
point).]

Although there are many LEGO employees like myself who review these
comments, the guidelines are not clear as to who should be the official
voice for such questions. Typically our communications teams handle "media"
inquiries but web initiatives such as LUGNET threads fall into a loosely
defined category. Because of this, many of our co-workers choose not to
respond fearing that it is not appropriate for them to be a voice of the
Company.

Yep, Understood perfectly. Some organisations (althoguh not ones I have had
close contact with) require employees to put a disclaimer on all e-mails to
the effect that views expressed are not nessecarily those of the company,
and that the e-mailer shouldn't be held as an offical voice etc, etc, etc.
Way too complicated for a non-legal person...

My advice would be to set up a specialist team to deal specifcally with the
Internet, Lugnet and AFOL sites ;-), possibly under the auspices of
LegoDirect. I am sure that if you asked on Lugnet I'm sure you would get a
number of applications to join such a team! The problem then might be
finding the 'right' people!!

It is a fact that the Company could improve our online communications to
you.  Perhaps Brad and I will have an internal discussion about this. My
guess is that you may not require a response to every post but you would
certainly like to know we are listening.

We are.

Does WE undestand our concerns about the current ranges?

OK response over. Now for some suggestions..

As you state you are a Manager at LEGOLAND Califronia, I would like to
congratulate you and the park on what you did for Halloween. Often it's not
the big things but the small detials that count and the park surpassed
itself. (Incdeintally my opinion is based on pictures I saw on another
fan-site.)

However, are they plans to build a permenant Ghost Train or Haunted House?

Children have told spooky stories for long time, ISTR it being a kind of US
traditon at Summer Camp?
Lego has for many years wanted to encourage
childrens creative urges. Indeed, the compnay sologan is 'Just Imagine'.
Other Theme Parks have haunted houses ( notably Phantom Manor(Disney) and
Haunted House(Alton Towers-Tussad Group), These however somtime suffer from
not being 'child-friendly'. Surely Legoland ( Billund,Windsor, California or
any of the others) could design one that is still spooky but NOT unsistuable
for children whilst still retaining thier magaical and mystical quailty for
all 'Kids'?

Also in an article over in lugnet.general I wrote a dream sequence peice
about what I thought the futur for TLG/TLC might be.(Profuse Apologies if
this caused offence to anyone in your organisation.).

(WARNING: The follwing text may contain pure speculation)

Amongst the ideas in that post were that TLC/TLG would in the fullness of
time would open Legoland Tokyo.- Windsor has a Castle so Legoland Tokyo
might have the Japanese equivilant.

Also Miniland could have replicas of Japnese buildings such as Shogun places
and Japanese temples..

(Incidentally the Ninja range was something that TLC/TLG should aim for in
design standards. It was about the best quality range I have seen!
(Excepting Star Wars, Adventurers(Egyptian) and the non Jr Castle!)

A new park could also premier a new range!- I suggested Optrix as the name
for a rage that allowed creativity to go overbaord by having optical blocks
suchas lenses and prisims ( ISTR A sister company to Lego back in Denmark
making precision optics?). Such a range could also make use of the rapidly
devloping tehnology of Light Emitting Plastics. Imagine the art-works that
could be created with 'luminous' bricks!  This could also result in the
'kids' of tommorrow experimenting with light, colour and art in ways
previously not possible..

Perhaps a note to end on given my ides for an 'Optrix' ;-) range is to
re-iterate a comment that others have made very often..

'It always darkest before the dawn...'

I want to use RCX or Scout in TRAIN series ASAP, but RCX or Scout is too big and sometimes too complex, I hope TLC can make mini-RCX or microi-Scout for TRAIN series, these two don't need baterry and the power can get from outside: Idea1: Mini-RCX, (...)
