Jonathan,
I understand your frustration but I've always tried to keep it in the
perspective of how well all the big companies I've ever worked for respond
to change. It's going to happen incrementally just because big companies
are like big ships, it takes a long time to change course unless there is a
very large force acting against them.
Here are two reasons I think that things are going to get better at TLC.
1. The Mindstorms Mall Tour is actually inviting volunteers from LUGs to
help them generate interest in their product and show it off. Right now I
believe that some Florida, Kansas, Georgia and Washington, DC shows will
have LUG members participating with their own exhibits as well.
2. Look at the Manager of the Mindstorms Mall Tours title: Assistant Brand
Manager, LEGO Americas Segment 7-16+. Notice the "+", sure they still think
most of their job is selling to the 7-16 year old crowd, but at least their
willing to realize that there may be more audience than that.
Now I'll tell you why it might not get that far. I posted asking for people
interested in getting the Mall Tour volunteers for shows, 8 people replied.
That doesn't exactly show huge interest to me. Want to get taken seriously?
Contribute. I expected some people to at least come out and say that
although there weren't any tours near them they would be interested in
helping in any future tours, but there wasn't a one of those. Part of the
problem is in the mirror folks.

| I have just spent 1/2 hour reading the "are you listening lego" thread: Here we have a large conversation about you, and we haven't even heard a peep out of you. (or at least I haven't) I've probably posted this same message 2 or 3 times before, but (...) (24 years ago, 3-Nov-00, to lugnet.lego, lugnet.dear-lego) !!
