Would it be all right if I simply copied the STUD.DAT file to • CSTUD.DAT?
More specifically, would there be any purity concerns about using the • cloned
primitive?

NO! If you DARE make clone parts you have to make all your own
primitives. In fact, you can't use lines either, you'll have to invent
something new. And you can just forget about using the colors either.

Did that sound silly?

Just be sure to change the header information (name, author, official status)
in the CSTUD.DAT file.  Asside from that, a copy is fine.  BTW, L3P will
still substitute POV equivalents for the cylinder and circle primitives, so
the studs should look the same other than not having "LEGO" on them.
