Actually, I added a MessageBox call to the very beginning of LDView so that I could attach a debugger. It never showed up, and L3P ran and generated POV files, so I really don’t think it’s running LDView for me.

Not only is there a problem with the lens angle and such, LDView doesn’t handle hoses generated by LSynth very well. They look good in MLCad, and POV-Ray, but they don’t do well in LDVIew. Care to give it a peek?

I fixed a few LPub problems with LDView, and got some instructions out. They look great!

It seems that there are some problems with LSynth hoses and LDView. They render nicely under the offical LDView, but not under beta. Except for the hoses, the building instructions look fabulous.

I uploaded the latest LPub (2.3.0.5) to http://www.kclague.net/LPub

The pedmatic building instructions are in:

Travis and I fixed the problems with LSynth and LDView. I need to release the new LSynth soon so people can have this fix. Travis sent me a updated beta LDView, so I re-rendered pedmatic, and all the hoses look great.

IMHO, LDView (and soon ldglite) is a superior solution to POV-RAY and MEGAPOV. The MEGAPOV solution is a heuristic (meaning it is an imperfect solution). It can do well, but it can produce flaws. LDView and ldGlite both know about conditional lines, and handle them properly.

I also find building instructions with outlined bricks to be easier on the eyes to view. For example, if I put together 2 1x6 half width liftarms together, it can be hard to tell there are two of them there under POV-Ray rendered images. With LDView and ldGlite, it is obvious.

I also think the outlined bricks make instructions look *much* more like LEGO instructions. This is a big attitude shift for me to be pro “outlined bricks”, but part of the shift is due to the fact that the renderers do it correctly.

Thanks to Don and Travis for their efforts in bringing this together.

Kevin

(...) If you were having trouble getting good renders I certainly could see why you wouldn't like it! But these tired eyes have lots of trouble with instructions even WITH the thick black edge lines. (19 years ago, 16-May-05, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

(...) You're welcome. Just to check, LDView still doesn't generate exactly the same viewing angle as L3P, right? (That was next on my list of things to fix.) Also, it's worth noting that the -SaveAlpha=1 command line setting in LDView 3 might have (...) (19 years ago, 16-May-05, to lugnet.cad, FTX)
