A 1 rotation/ 36 second escapement is going to be really tough. Mine is 1 turn / 8 seconds, and is is close to the edge of the reliability envelope. The big problem is that the escapement must come to a complete stop with every pendulum swing, and (...) (25 years ago, 6-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

I don't have these sets, but I found something similar in the 8002 Destroyer droid. It came with an amendment sheet for page 30, showing a different position for the two rubber bands. I have build 2 of these machines, this is a nice set, but I have a two complaints about this set. 1. the flex stearing system does not respond good. 2. the mechanisme to transfer the motor to the wheels is a sloppy, there are 5 chains with each 16 (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Amnon, I've also found a not in-significant source of friction is the bushes against the beams (or whatever your axle goes through). I've reduced this a bit on occasion by not using bushes to hold axles in position, but having a brick at each end, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

One of the tough problems in building a clock is to design a very low friction, very tall gear ratio drive. Neat! I'd often thought about trying something like this! When I was a kid, (pre-technic!!) I built a gantry crane that used a complex series of cables (string) and pulleys. I think this is an understatement. I think it would be a huge challenge to build something strong enough. A piano key, however, would be a really cool project. Hmmm. I imagine a piano action wouldn't be out of the question, either. The main problem I can see is with the strings - if you're looking at 4 octaves, thats 48 fairly tight strings, which is going to put a fair bit of strain on whatever base you (...) Has anyone made a musical instrument out of Lego? I've searched around and I haven't seen anything. I'm not sure what sort could be made. I'm working a few of these ideas, but basically I was annoyed at how *SMALL* it was (the DDK) so I've started making a "life" sized R2 simmilar to Eric Harshburger's and the one at Legoland, but this won't be a static sculpture. I just nabbed a second copy of the Mindstorms Droid Developer Kit[1], and I've been thinking about how to make a better R2, and what the functions should be. The shocks in the Silver Champion ARE stiffer. The lever action is just how they happen to be used in the "Silver Champion" instructions. Or did I not understand your point?
