  the LEGO CNC-Machine

hey! first post on lugnet, i hope it won't be the last! anyways, i just wanted to share my new creation with you, the LEGO CNC-MACHINE. to avoid confusions, this is not a finished project, i'm starting to build it and will keep posting updates on my (...)   New RCX 2.0 version

The photo posted by Patrick Bégin ((URL) a new version of the RCX 2.0 board, with several interesting characteristics... - The board was completely redesigned, here is the photo of the new version posted by Patrick: (URL) older version looked like (...)   Re: I played with fire...

(...) Hello Patrick, Your RCX2 version is completely new to me - That't very interesting... more on that later (btw, would you have a photo of the other side of the board?). The component you show as burnt is most probably a power diode, as (...) (17 years ago, 27-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  RE: I played with fire...

(...) My mistake. The RCX 1.0 has an AC adaptor jack which has a full-wave bridge rectifier to convert to DC and would provide AC protection. I guess RCX 2.0, without the external jack, does not have this. (17 years ago, 26-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

(...) I applied 9V AC power to the internal + - battery connectors. (17 years ago, 26-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  RE: I played with fire...

(...) While your RCX is fried, it is probably not from plugging AC power into the power plug. LEGO's low voltage adaptor is an AC adaptor. Or did you mean you applied AC power to the RCX sensor port? (17 years ago, 26-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Hi Patrick, (...) that looks like a somewhat large diode to me. In my own picture it is round and is marked with a diode symbol and "A2". (...) It shouldn't he hard to replace. But I doubt that it is the only thing that is damaged. It looks like it (...) (17 years ago, 26-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

  I played with fire...

I applied 9V AC power to a RCX 2.0... yes yes, DC is required. Does anybody successfully repaired such a disaster ? Here are pictures pointing to what I think burned out. What is that component ? Anybody successfully replaced it ? (URL) have (...) (17 years ago, 24-Aug-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Possible bug? Simple light sensor condition checking.

I use BrickOS (LegOS) but I'm not expert in the inner workings. The code you have here appears fine to me. So, it may be a bug in BrickOS, or a problem elsewhere in your code. I will say I've ran into some interesting things when using tasks. (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Possible bug? Simple light sensor condition checking.

I tried my own skill on writing a program for the included lego test pad (RIS 2.0), and I discovered something weird. The following code does set the conditions right, but the following code doesn't set the conditions right if I comment out the (...) (17 years ago, 16-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx.legos)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

You must be dealing with a different release of the battery pack than I am, since the only portion of the US instructions that mentions numbers states the output of the battery pack (10VAC, 7VA) and the approximate charge time (4 hours).   Re: problem with the RCX

(...) Is the RCX still working? Does it "get hot" when it's running an unloaded motor? I would have thought that the 500 mA limit within the RCX case would prevent this, but perhaps it's marginal for some plastic piece "nearby". If the RCX is dead, (...)   problem with the RCX

One of my students accidently left a tied up gear train running for a while, i.e. In the midst of running a RCX, the case not only gets very hot, but also has a very strong plastic burning smell. At first I thought it is due to the stuck gear train, (...) (17 years ago, 11-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)

Re: Sign of center pin on power adaptor

(...) Whoops, I missed that there was a third option. I concur with this, as it's both the right voltage and confirmed AC. The mA rating, BTW, is a capacity rating, so it will work for anything that draws 800mA or less. The NXT adapter is rated for (...) (17 years ago, 11-Jul-07, to lugnet.robotics.rcx)
