This no doubt will get some post or posts from him pointing out what a bad
person or bad debater I am for not playing the game his way. Tough.

And anyone that feels it is both our faults equally needs to really think
about that long and hard before they say so.

I was going to stay out of this but...(1) While I possibly agree with
you Larry, this seems to be one of those times where it's appropriate
for the parents to send BOTH kids to their rooms without supper.

I still am not convinced it's good to have lugnet.off-topic.debate, but
I'm not sure what the real solution is. Frankly (to be myself), I really
should just remove .debate from my reading list, it's just that it is
one of the few places where some glimmer of good critical thinking and
debate goes on in my life.

What we almost need is a mechanism where when a certain number of people
decide someone is not playing nice in a debate, there is a place for
them to register their concern, and when a threshold is met, that
person's posting priviledges to .debate (or less drastically to the
particular thread in question) get yanked (for some period of time for
.debate as a whole, or for the thread at all for a thread). If we had
such a mechanism, there are several folks I would have nominated in the
past week or so.

(1) Proving I'm no better than anyone else here.
