Hehe. Good. I like you better this way!
(From your .debate posts I barely recognize the funny guy I met at Brickfest
last year! It took me awhile to convince myself I was not mistaken and it
was the same person. You're usually so serious here... ;-)
OK, there is so much to be written about. I have no time, it's my birthday
and I've still got some stuff planned for today. I will try to briefly
summarize my thoughts.
I see your point - I really do see what you're saying. That's not to say I
agree with all of it. I agree that sometimes, letting the child suffer the
consequences of his or her action is more beneficial than giving them a
coerced punishment. But *I*, personally, still believe that some lessons
need to be learned, and I *will* teach my kids those lessons before I let
them loose in the library, to quote you. I would not let my two or three
year old run around in the library before they could demonstrate their
ability to abide by its rules. Small metaphor, that; if you compare the
library to our societal world (and change the age range from 2-3 to
something more like 15-20). I would try to instate certain values in my
children before I send them off on their way and let them do as they please.
If, then, they decide to disregard what I tried to teach them, how to get
around in our world (or the library) - they will have to suffer the
consequences the real world throws at them, yes. But I will feel that I did
my best. I'm not going to send my children out without preparing them, *as
best I see fit*, to this so-called real world. And you are free to prepare
your children in the way you see fit. Fair?
