Denying new threads would do nothing except make it harder for people to ignore

I'll add my voice in opposition to this proposal also. It will result in
a couple things:

- it will do nothing to stop the current debates, there's plenty of
existing threads to hang off of
- it will clutter other threads with debate (right now, many people open
a NEW thread in .debate to discuss issues raised in an on-topic post -
this is a good thing since it keeps the threads separate - remember, the
web view almost negates the compartmentalization of Lugnet since you
always see all posts in a thread, even if you have filtered some groups
out)

If we feel .debate is not constructive to the community, then let's just
get rid of it completely.

Frank

It would accomplish nothing but adding confusion.

It all seems to me that just because there is an off-topic debate area, it
makes it ok to talk about anything under the sun. (eh, that's a loose
summation, sorry)

As I have said before, I would like to see o-t.d changed so that new
threads cannot be started there.

That's not a bad idea. It could't prevent the general behavior, but would
discourage it, and make a point to those people who tried it for the first time.

o.t-debate is for discussing things not related to LEGO, so if I wanted to
start a discourse on, say, the merits of green crayons as opposed to red
crayons for colouring the grass in my neices 'Sailor Moon' colouring book,
and I wanted community input from those at LUGNET (whom I have come to
appreciate) then I would start a thread in o.t.-dabate

If in .market.theory a thread is started talking about the merits of
slashing prices of LEGO at walmart and seeing what Zellers would do in
response, and part of this thread turns into discusisng the slashing of
prices of canoe racks and the merits thereof, that would also be forwarded
to o.t.-debate, cause it doesn't deal with LEGO theory anymore.

If there is an issue with LUGNET, and we want to discuss modifying charters,
or some other aspect of the LUGNET community, then there was a proposal a
few months back about .admin.roundtable, but no idea where that went, but it
might go into o.t.-debate until a solution is hashed out, and we can say to
Suz, 'We think this is a good proposal, mayhaps you would like to implement
these changes.'

If it's just people bickering, mayhaps a new
group--o.t.-bickering/tirade/i-wont-listen-to-your-spouting-but-you-must-listen-to-mine
group.

Anyway, just comments from one of us in the cheap seats, a la 'peanut gallery'

(...) admin.roundtable turned into the group you're using now, admin.suggestions. This is the place for discussing modification of charters, etc. I chose not to use the word 'roundtable' (even though it was an appropriate word) because I did not (...)
