You're right, what really needs to happen is there needs to be less
tolerance (and zero tolerance for some people) for responses which start
these flame wars. I think the boobie prize goes to the person who first
responds in a thread, or creates a new thread, with snide remarks, name
calling, or such.
What the prohibition of responding might do is get the people who are
constantly involved in these flame fests to give a little bit more
consideration to what they are about to say.
It's a shame more hasn't been done in the past because I think some of
these problems have become so bad because the wounds were allowed to
fester.
