In defense of the new canopies...

For the first time in a while, they designed a new canopy that actually
matches existing piece geometry.  A 2-stud 45-degree front angle matches
perfectly with the very common 3x3 plate w/o corner and the 3x6 plate w/o
corners.  Also the facet bricks and 6x6 octagonal domes.  This is a • critical
bit that Lego appears to be largely ignoring lately- making pieces that
actually work with existing ones.  Look at the current Jack Stone 6-wide
canopy and the front end of the Railway Express- these don't match with
anything without doing SNOT construction.

I too like the new canopies.  Always good to have new types of these.  And
in trans brown and red too!  I'm mildly dissapointed that they don't have a
hinge on the back.  I miss the old days with canopies that connected to a
1x4 hinge piece.  Not that it will be too much of a problem though.

What I'm really concerned about is what looks like a big POOP that looks
like its used on all the subs (except for the small yellow one that comes
with 4795).  You can see it clearly on 4792.  The yellow piece matches the
front portion of the canopie and then flares out in a curve as the canopie
curves up. I wonder how far back the same piece goes?  I also can't tell if
the piece has some depth too it like the large dk-gray piece that matched
the brown Rock Raiders canopies.

I'm still trying to figure out whats goin on under that canopy on 4792.  To
me it looks like the canopy is mounted on the long yellow corner
curvy-slopes.  Then these pieces seem to be mounted on some inverted long
black corner curvy-slopes.  Maybe I'm squinting to hard.  Behind these it
looks like are 2 (1x8?) black curving slopes.  Thats when it looks like that
big POOP piece might actually be the entire lower portion of the sub.  From
the back portion with the holes for the technic pegs, to the front under the
canopy.  Yuck.  Someone tell me I'm wrong.

And although the patterns on the canopies look like they are printed, at
least they are generic in theme and don't completely block the view
(remember the ones from Aqua Sharks and Insectoids?  GAAIGH!)

Well Brasso will make short work of the printing but it actually looks like
there are 4 without printing and 3 with.
