Thanks for the info Dave! I was lucky enough to have just aquired the 8459 used but in mint condition (at a reasonable price compared to what the going rate is these days). It was quite enjoyable to assemble, but I would have to agree with you I (...) (21 years ago, 3-May-03, to lugnet.technic)

I haven't showed this model on the net yet because it's one of my 'oldies' (built in '97): (URL) a Scania R143E ('95) with a 500 hp V8 engine pulling a 12-axle Nooteboom drawbar/low loader (6 axle lines). I worked up a second micromotor base center of gravity (COG) shifter, uCOG II. Its hard to compete with Paul, so I thought I'd better keep at it. It is first time I use such one, but I see that the switch is hard to use, I have to press hard to get it down, an it is the same to get it up, I have to press really hard and in (...) The color sucks and yes, going to BrickLink to get those (...) HI, I do agree. I have to admit that I don't like the green panels either so that's the reason why I didn't use them in my MOC out of the 8458 and 8466. For me the most important parts (...) I have a question for those that were around back in '97 when the 8459 was originally released. This was still during my dark age so I am not familiar with the availability of this set. I have seen Ben's steel bridge (and helped re-rig the cables to the pulleys after a minor anomaly), and I can attest that it is truely one of the finest LEGO bridges in the AFOL community, or in the world for that matter. I've just had another idea (...) The next time their is a poll to choose which set should be re-released why not have an advocate for each potential set. That set has been, IMHO, (next to the 8431 Crane Truck re-issue) the best "really big" technic set in recent years (mindstorms doesnt count as technic) The 8466 has so many good attributes: 1.a fair few studded beams, including the (exclusive to (...) That might very well almost hold true (I am no expert) if your motors were hooked up like: [power]--------[moto...---[motor] (parallel circuit) But I have mine hooked up like: [motor]--------[powe...---[motor] (parallel circuits) I assume one motor (...) Chain: been there done that, it wasn't a pretty sight... Lego chain is not strong enough for the weight and forces a lifting mechnism will put on it. I tried chain on my lift bridge before eventually moving on the string. I bought over $120 worth of (...) (21 years ago, 29-Apr-03, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.trains)

I just got through purchasing 4 rotation sensors for that very reason for my lift bridge ((URL) - in Creations). I will be adding the 4 rotation sensors and an additional rcx to my bridge sometime this year. Out of 32 motors, I could never get 2 (...) Very nice. We had a lift bridge in our last display as well, but it couldn't run very many times before the crawlers would de-synch. hi everyone, a friend asked me to build a drawbridge for a train display. so this is what i came up with: (URL) is loosely based on the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland Oregon: (URL) are 3 spans. each span is 96 studs long. the center section lift is (...) (...) I really like his idea of elevating the boom: very simple with a rope! On my small Liebherr excavator I have the same kind of technique, but you can see the rope clearly. Here's the story about my adventures in crane building: (2 URLs) - 'Previous projects' - 'Mobile crane'. The extending boom was no problem. Lifting it was.
