They do indeed have new pieces (to almost everyone). During my
frenzied visit to the Toy Fair showroom, I spotted what I believed to be a
new Technic piece (though I later found out that it's available in at least
one Spybotics set). It's a 1x2 full-width liftarm with two pin-holes. You
can see a pair of them in yellow on the top of the Front-End Loader here:

Part of TLC's newfound growth (I've heard that prior to the mid-90's,
Germany accounted for a larger percentage of total world-wide sales than the
entire US) is that they are basically forced to streamline their product
offerings or they'll end up sitting on warehouses of product that noone will
buy.
With the brisk sales enjoyed by the Star Wars, Bionicle, and Harry
Potter lines, most store chains won't want to buy massive sets that won't
have a quick turnaround, since the shelfspace they'd need to devote to
displaying one $100 set that they might sell one or two of in a single year
could be put to use selling a hundred smaller sets in the $10 or less range
during that same period of time. If they can make $50 per set on two sets,
or $5 per set on 100 sets, which do you think they're going to order? If
stores won't order the larger sets, which do you think TLC will make?
While I agree that a certain element of the fans would be thrilled by
gigantic $100+ Technic sets being offered again, they don't sell well enough
to the general consumers to justify pumping them into stores that can't sell
them. If they do come back, I can pretty much guarantee they'll be a LEGO
Direct exclusive.

The $70 8454 Rescue Truck is the largest confirmed for the year, and
it's pretty small compared to some of the previous large sets. It will
probably be well-received for how big it is, but I doubt it will adequately
scratch anyone's Super-Car-itch.
> I disagree. Not a single stud is not my idea of good Technic.
Both Technic styles are capable of doing things that the other can't do
very well, and neither is more or less "correct" than the other. I've
always preferred the newer liftarms over the original Technic bricks for
general construction because I've found that they allow for more organic
designs, but they're not always easy to work with if you want a more
industrial design.
> Or perhaps it is, maybee I want Model Team? *think* Yep! That's what I want!
You mean "Advanced Designer"? That's the official name for the more
detailed vehicle groups coming out this year.
