Hi!

I just bought a 8x4 9V battery box from Lego_bonkers on bricklink.
It is first time I use such one, but I see that the switch is hard to use, I
have to press hard to get it down, an it is the same to get it up, I have to
press really hard and in the right angle.
Is this normal?

Yes, it is. The switch mechanism works by pressing the button down and
slightly forward, in order to lock it in "on" position. To disconnect, you
have to press the button slightly backwards, and then the spring should lift
the button alone.
It works without pressing it forward, but only while you're pressing down.

My intention was to install it under a roof and with a 1x2 brick to turn it
on and off, but I guess a switch <set:5120> is a better solution (then it
can run both ways too!)

Perhaps you can combine both things: suppose you put the battery box (always
"on") in the interior of the wagon, connected by a short wire to the switch
on the roof; this way you manage to grant control of the battery power at
will. The downside is the increased weight on the wagon.
But even this is not necessary with a locomotive, the wire can be linked
directly to the motor - which is easier, even though I have no idea of what
the outcome may be!

HTH,

Pedro

(...) Actually, you don't have to push the button when turning it off, I have some spine-taught method of dragging the button backwards with my nail. And my experience is that you don't have to push hard on the button to lock it into place either. (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-03, to lugnet.technic)
