I have a student who is trying to use RIS 2.0 with Virtual PC on a Macintosh. LEGO says the drivers should be on the CDROM; the guy that sold them Virtual PC says it probably won't run the RIS 2.0. Pure Lego propellors: I just tried using vehicle windshields as rotor blades. They actually work quite well. Their slope is extremely steep - but I guess that's what you want for small diameter propellors (ie a smaller hole in the top of your (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Yes, it will. RIS 1.0 will also work on XP. Before installing any of the LEGO software on XP (or 2000, for that matter) I highly suggest downloading the latest versions of Quicktime, DirectX, and RealPlayer. The versions on the LEGO software were (...) (23 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.robotics)

One thing I can tell you is that you need to add c:\cygwin\bin to your path (autoexec.bat) Also, when you try to download a program, instead of just using util/dll try ./util/dll I'm sure John will have other suggestions. Brushless DC motors, such as those used in PC cooling fans, won't generate enough power, even if the voltage is increased. Compiling your own compiler is undoubtably the hardest barrier of entry to brickos. I suggest that the h8300 binutils and gcc be distributed as Cygwin packages from the brickos website. If all the motors and stuff on top weighed (say) 100 grams, and you have just 16cm diameter skirt then you need a pressure of: 0.1 / (PI x 0.008 x 0.008 ) kilograms/square meter ...in order (...) I just tried a 5V processor cooling fan a 12V computer PSU cooling fan a 3V ducted fan of the sort used to cool your face (run at 5V without on-board batteries) with a 16cm dia polystyrene plenum. None could really lift their own weight - although (...) (23 years ago, 29-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Your cygwin installation is not working correctly. You shouldn't be experiencing any instabality as a result of running cygwin & unix commands. I would uninstall cygwin and try reinstalling it.
