Yes, it will. RIS 1.0 will also work on XP.
Before installing any of the LEGO software on XP (or 2000, for that matter) I
highly suggest downloading the latest versions of Quicktime, DirectX, and
RealPlayer. The versions on the LEGO software were never intended for XP or
2000 and may cause problems on some systems.
For RIS1.0, acknowledge the 256 color error and proceed with installation. When
it is finished, right-hand-click the "Robotics Invention System" icon and choose
"properties". Select the "Compatibility" tab and check "Run this program in
compatibility mode for... Windows 98/Windows Me" and check "Run in 256 colors".
Click OK. The installation leaves the "LEGO MINSTORMS(tm)" application open
after install is completed. Hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and end that task or restart the
machine.
For RIS1.5, install the software. After installation, edit the shortcut
properties for the "Robotics Invention System" icon. On the "Shortcut" tab, the
"Start In" directory should say "C:\Program Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS" (not
"C:\Program Files\LEGO MINDSTORMS\Probe.exe").
