I've found a paper on the notebook case that says 'Amity CN 2 was designed for win 95. If you wish to upgrade to Win 98 you must disable the USB. If you expect you will be using your USB Mitsubishi will upgrade the hardware to activate the USB (...) (23 years ago, 10-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Jonathon, Here are my "short" answers: 1) Reload your laptop fresh with Windows 98 to solve USB (and other) issues. 2) It is apparently possible to use the IrDA port to control 38~40KHz IR devices (RCX, Scout, TV, VCR, DVD). 3) The darkness issue (...) I've been wondering if anybody has any ideas why they chose to go with IR as opposed to RF? The substantial limitations of IR make it highly impracticle for robotics. I have thought about those methods as well, the only problem is when you don't work with the RCX's for just one robot. I have a notebook mitsubishi, Amity CN wich has a USB port and an IR port. Does anybody know how can I use it to program RCX. There's one way for solving the problem with multiple IR communications at the same time. The method used for old computer networks is called a "token" wich is passed from PC to PC giving each one a chance to "speak". This could also be used for (...) (23 years ago, 9-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

Hello - In the past I have burned out serial port towers, so I recently acquired the USB version of the IR tower. Take a look at my version of Mibo and play the GIF or AVI and you will see two RCXs operating 6 motors and 5 sensors communicating with each other with messages to synchronize the actions of the model. In the end, it all comes down to the power connector on the original 1.0 RCX. If you don't mind buying batteries while you're trying to debug your code, then the version you buy doesn't matter. Well, even that's negotiable. Depends if you already have a tower or not, or if you don't mind buying a second. You can pick up USB or serial towers separately on eBay or BrickLink and sell the one you don't want. The 2.0 software will use the (...) (23 years ago, 7-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

From my experience, what you are describing is normal behavior for the current version of pbForth. Mr. Hempel has done an excellent job of creating a version of Forth to work with the RCX, but the work is far from complete. If you look at the (...) (...) Matt, Just because the LCD is blank does not mean that pbForth is not running. When you power the RCX on and pbForth is the firmware, the LCD is blanked. Can you communicate over the IR link? I don't know much about forth, but I'll try to help. I'm not sure that any firmware (normal) could keep the RCX from turning on. Yes, I remember. I did save a search on Laser PEN's on eBay because of that :) I planned to use video image analysis (er... machine/robotic vision) to keep track of (and measure) the reflection of laser line on objects. I say LINE and not DOT (...) (23 years ago, 5-Jun-02, to lugnet.robotics)

You are correct in stating that I shouldn't have restricted you to 16 nodes X 16 ports. I did however, want to normalize the host address in the visible API and user interfaces to be a small 0..N number instead of a random hex byte value, properly (...) Scott, I suggest you start by following the instructions by Paolo Masetti found at (URL) He has written a pretty thorough set of instructions that should get you started. That's because the current IR tower requires USB and Windows 95 didn't support USB (well, except for Windows 95B but I think most of the USB drivers were custom/non-standard). Ed, Thanks, I was familiar with that thread. Unfortunately not much useful info came out of it. I was hoping for a report from someone who was ultimately successful in building legOS and its tools, as well as building the cross-compilers on a USB OS (...)
