I really have to stop watching CNN...
(the worlds most trusted news source)

K, before the CNN, let's talk about "Meet the Press" Sunday on NBC...

So CP's on there,  basically restating the infomercial that Dubya had a few
days before, and it seemed to me that the questions from the 'newscaster'
were basically scripted--there was no dissention, no 'hard hitting'
questions--every single question that the broadcaster had seemed to be
specific to allow CP to make all the points he wanted to make.

Then some Democrat (dunno his name but he's one of the trillion Dems running
for Pres...) gets on there and the 'newscaster' rips him a new one--"But
what about this... What about that... What about those who say...?  You said
this upteen trillion years ago--why you change your tune???"

And this isn't an isolated incident.

The next time anyone says that the media favours the left--that persons
arguments are null and void.

Back to CNN...

So a bunch of Padres were on Larry King (me thinks that RBPS would have been
a welcome addition to the panel, but I digress... ;) ) discussing their
beliefs and this upcoming war...

Holy crap are Christians an arrogant bunch of pricks!!

That is if we go by whazzisname (again, not great with names)--the points he
was making--saying that Islam is a blatantly false religion?  Yeah, that
won't incite folks.  That anyone who doesn't believe that Jesus is "the only
way" to God is condemned to eternal damnation???

Hey, I'm a Christian and I don't believe that!  Do you realize that when you
say that Jesus is the only way, not only do you write off Islam, and a whole
bunch of other world religions, but understand what you're saying--you're
also writing off *****GODS CHOSEN PEOPLE*****, the Jews.

Hello!  Anyone home?  "Well, God changed his mind in the New Testament!"

Whatever.

The Israelites are Gods Chosen--and let me give you a clue--they don't
believe that the second coming, as professed in the Old Testament, has
happened yet.

So now you want to sit here, as Christians, and say to the Jewish people,
"Hey, you're going to eternal damnation 'cause you don't believe in *our*
Jesus Christ"??

Again, whatever.

Many things make my blood boil, but Christians, especially Christians in the
upper tiers of responsibility, on national television, and expressing their
views as "God ordained" by saying that "those" folks are condemned to
eternal damnation--to you I say "shut up and take a seat".  The Bible says
many many things--all of which have to be taken in context of *the entire
Bible*. Spouting one verse and saying "That's God's word right there, in
black and white"--yeah, you done taught yourself real well, didn't ya!

Go spread your hatred of things that aren't you in the name of some other
god--you're not speaking for me and my God.

Then there was a caller a few nights ago (again on Larry King) "I've never
been so proud ot be American!" in reference to the troops positioned right
out of Iraq, "Those folks wo don't support our troops are unamerican"

First thing--folks against the war are *not* agaisnt our troops--this isn't
Vietnam all over again.  Speaking up against the war is as about as American
as you can get--for you are excercising the freedom that you guys fought and
died for many moons ago--to say today that "those protestors" are
anti-American is, well, anti-American.

Secondly, again I'd like to disuade anyone of the notion that Iraq poses a
clear and present danger to *American* security.  Sure Iraq isn't a good
vacation spot on the globe, and that the neighbours may think that Iraq is a
threat--but I don't see those neighbours of Iraq clamouring about the
'imminent danger'.  Heck, even Turkey needed millions upon billions of
dollars to accept the "threat of Iraq".

What else was there--

Oh, to Bubba's wife HRC-- who is so concerned about 'the longest undefended
border in the world' as a source of influx of terrorists--you know those 19
folks who hijacked planes a while back--they all had U.S. issued visas--us
Canadians didn't issue those visas, us Canadians didn't let them 'sneak
into' your country via Canada, and us Canadians didn't help, in any shape or
form, those terrorists.

I have no problem with the idea that we need more security today.  I have no
problem enhancing the rules and regulations if it's going to help eliminate
terrorist threats in either of our two countries.  But implying that our
shared border system had anything to do with the breach of security of 9-11,
is ludicrous at best, and political fear-mongering at worst--but then again,
that's what most of your American political counterparts are using right now
to get their little agendas across.

What was that poll--over 50 percent of Americans think that Iraq was
involved in 9-11??

Yeah, you can keep your little coutry, your media, and your chip on your
shoulder.

Oh that brings me to my last point--the international court just convened
(with a Canadian at the helm :) ), of course, without American
participation... I have heard this over and over again--"America has the
right to protect its sovereignty"--one of the religious zealots on Larry
King last night said it--"We answer to no one but ourselves"  Well, fine and
dandy--but now, in the world, America is pushing its own agenda on other
countries.  What about their "sovereign" rights as a nation?  Lo and behold,
America has a problem with that--the Americans say that what's going on in
some other country affects the 'peace and security' of *America*, and they
will take whatever steps necessary to "rectify the situation".

Yeah, as if that doesn't sound like the biggest bully on the block, who
wants to do whatever he wants, but at the same time, deny that same rights
to other kids on the block.

I think you should change your motto from "America the strong, beautiful and
free" to "America the bully"--you're even bullying your own people who speak
out against war.  Freedom?  Not a chance in America unless you follow the
party line.

Thank you and goodnight.

Dave K

(...) Holy cow. I bet it feels good to get THAT out! As an American and a Christian, I agree with (most of) what you said. I'm against this so-called "war", I don't understand why so many Christians make this a holy issue (no, really, I don't!), and (...) (22 years ago, 13-Mar-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
