It sounds to me that they are going out of their way on this to help AFOLs
specifically. And that is significant.

You are certainly entitled to see it this way, I just don't agree with you.
As I said, I completely believe this is a desperation attempt not to offend
any more AFOL's than they already have.  Heck, how many parents buy their
kids 20K worth of Lego in the same year?  For that matter, how many buy
their kids that much in their lifetime?  Take a look at the response Jake
posted a few minutes ago.  He had to "beg, borrowed, and pleaded to make
this happen".  If this is the case then it is clear to me that Lego as a
company doesn't care or is too blind to see how important this issue is to
some fans of their products.

Would you like to present your business case for this? Got the financials • to
back you up?

Business case, financials????  Am I missing something here?

I still don't understand this line of thought, unless you are blissfully
convinced that AFOLs know what's best for Lego and should be consulted up • front
on anything & everyting that affects them. Why should Lego publicly • discuss it's
future product plans with AFOLs? Would you like MegaBlok executives to sit • in on
those discussions too? I don't know too many companies that do that with • their
core enthusiasts. Perhaps some AFOLs were consulted but are under a NDA? • Who
knows?

You know Spencer there is something VERY interesting to what you said here.
I would bet that AFOLS would be a hell of a lot better judge of what Lego
would be successful with than the management team they have or have had!
Just my opinion mind you, but one that I find very interesting.  Something
to think about though....most AFOLS thought that Bionicle was a HUGE mistake
on Lego's part.  However, the reality is that this product line has done
amazing things to keep their financials from being far worse.  Cuious if
Bionicle never existed and AFOL type decisions were made with the direction
of Lego, would they ever have faced the financial decline they have
experienced?

(...) That is entirely possible. As Jake has indicated, the existance of AFOLs is still relatively unknown in some corners of the company. However, even if our true impact to the business was well known and understood within Lego - would this type (...) (21 years ago, 18-Mar-04, to lugnet.lego.direct, lugnet.market.shopping)
