Since I just asked this
question about BrickFest PDX 2007...
Can the organizers of BrickWorld 2007 tell us who (if anyone) will be
profiting from this years event?
|
Im just curious: what leads you to think that this type of information
should be public knowledge? Its as if you believe that fest organizers
are somehow obligated to account for every penny to the GP, and AFOLs in
particular. Do you suspect that such people are somehow ripping off AFOLs
who attend?
And if they do make money off of an event, is that somehow a Bad Thing™?
It seems to me that even by posing the question, it raises a question of
impropriety; kinda like when did you stop beating your wife?

There isnt anything wrong with either a for-profit or non-profit AFOL event.
Any of these answers are perfectly fine:
- John Smith will be profiting from this event.
- Corporation X, LLC will be profiting from this event.
- This is a non-profit event. Any leftover money will go towards X.
I just think people would like to know going in which one it is. What reason
would organizers of AFOL events have to keep that information from the
community?

The people running any type of LEGO hobby event/expo/fest/world etc... such as
BrickFest, BrickWorld, LEGOWORLD in Zwolle, 1000Steinland, and any other private
or public event dont need to answer or report to the general public.
For anyone who wants to take charge of the HARDWORK that goes into any event run
by a small team AFOLs for AFOLs. Go ahead.
My advice...SAVE up a lot of money for travel, and visit ALL of the LEGO fan
events around world, and meet the people running the event. You should have
youre answer. It is kinda easy to run a small group of people like 10-15 with
a few dollars. But when things grow to a larger group like 300+ there is a lot
of risk.
Finding a big place to hold the event, expenses, goodies, insurance, respect the
rules etc. Not forget finding great crew/staff/team in which love the hobby
willing to work and help-out on their free time. Nothing is free.
There is no reason for anyone to know a event for AFOLs.

p.s. Anyone running any Brick type event here or there around the world dont
answer. Just run a good event for everybody.
